Sailabration and Pride both kick off today, and though celebrating the War of 1812 will be super exciting (…) our plans are facing a bit north of the401. Pride takes over Mount Vernon on Saturday, but there are lots of other mini parties throughout the city leading up to it. City Paper created a Pride Guide, and if Saturday’s high-heel race or dance tents aren’t your bag, perhaps a meal … Continue reading

The Sun just posted this great article about Everyman Theatre. It hasn’t officially become part of the401 yet, (that should happen in January) but we can still celebrate its coolness from afar. Everyman offers pre-show tours to blind theater-goers. The audience members are invited onstage to feel the costumes, props, and set design to give more background for the actual performance. After examining the stage, one theater fan referenced in … Continue reading

We missed the Transmodern festival this year, but WhatWeekly kindly created a picture diary so comprehensive, we feel a little like we were there. Check out all the photos- you can either relive the event or- if you didn’t make it this time around- smile because now you have evidence that real Baltimore is still kicking.

BOOM. The Bromo Tower Arts and Entertainment District (please, someone dive into a brevity pool and surface with a nickname) was approved today! Following Station North and Highlandtown, BTA&ED has become our city’s third arts district. Beginning July 1, the district -quite a lot of which falls in the401- will be official, and tax credits should kick in early next year. Keep an eye out for new studios, galleries, and … Continue reading

This weekend is supposed to be lovely. 77 and sunny on Saturday means you should get outside, walk around, and find yourself at 218 Saratoga st for Icon- a gallery event featuring tons of local artists. Hobnob, speculate, and take home something cool via the silent auction. It is a far superior alternative to playing Call of Duty in your underwear on such a beautiful day.

Did you hear music and laughter in Center Plaza today? Perhaps the sound of people buying local and eating outside? Tomorrow, instead of being a creep and eavesdropping, you should join the crowds. Center Plaza’s second Craft Market ends tomorrow. From 11-2 you can buy cool stuff, eat delicious food (including Thai, Mexican, and peppermint sticks jammed into lemons), and enjoy lunch to some outdoor music. Here are some pictures … Continue reading

Anyone up for a disgruntled light show this weekend? The city’s Westside will be illuminated in unrest as the Greenpants group calls attention to their opposition to upcoming development. Whether you support the cause, need some fresh air from the H&H building’s Transmodern festival, or just really like light shows, head down to Howard Street on Saturday night and take part in the spectacle. (Thanks to City Paper for this … Continue reading

Do you have a bike? Or perhaps a co-worker who lives near you, and you guys split the cost of a tandem fixie off Craigslist one night after too many home-brews? Perfect! Because Friday is Bike to Work Day. If you’ve never biked the Baltimore Streets, Friday might be a good inauguration for you, since so many other Downtown workers and residents will be out. Wear a helmet, obey traffic … Continue reading
